At NV Logistics, we are never short of surprises. Take as an example our\u00a0tightly knit team of transport whizzes <\/strong>who\u00a0are given challenges such as shipping a fury Yeti to Russia or flying precious scientific instruments to the Antarctic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"right_footprintBeing a logistics\u00a0company,\u00a0we stamp our\u00a0footprint<\/strong> just about anywhere in the world!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And this is why, in 2014, we decided to team up with myclimate <\/span>and make use of their smart method which transforms the carbon\u00a0footprint <\/strong>(CO2\u00a0<\/sub>) into positive and useful experiences.<\/p>\n

The result is the climate-neutral label<\/em> which has been awarded to NV Logistics for 2014, based on an in-depth evaluation of our internal administrative<\/em> resources and processes.<\/p>\n

We earned the label thanks to close collaboration with ecoLive<\/a>, a local Geneva-based environmental agency who guided us through\u00a0the certification process.<\/p>\n

This experience has given us many insights and the opportunity of taking action in two practical ways:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Identify company-internal\u00a0pollution elements with a view of reducing\u00a0our own greenhouse gas emissions.<\/li>\n
  2. Participate in the global movement by supporting other worthwhile climate-protection projects.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Alright. So,\u00a0what’s up with myclimate?<\/span><\/h2>\n

    myclimate\u00a0<\/span>is a Swiss non-profit organisation with an international repute. It\u00a0actively promotes climate protection, both locally and globally. It prides itself to be science-based and business-oriented.<\/p>\n

    Its clients (referred to as partners)\u00a0are large, medium and small businesses, public administrations, non-profit organisations, event organisers and private individuals.<\/p>\n

    myclimate’s <\/span>patronage committee includes (amongst others) Federal Councilor Doris Leuthard<\/strong> –\u00a0Head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications and Prof. Muhammad Yunus<\/strong> –\u00a0Founder and Managing Director of Grameen Bank and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.<\/p>\n

    How does it work?<\/h2>\n

    We hope that these short points help you grasp the essentials …<\/p>\n

    1. The Assumption <\/strong>is that most\u00a0individuals and organisations are mindful about\u00a0global warming and its dire consequences.<\/p>\n

    2. The Villains <\/strong>are greenhouse gases, present in the atmosphere\u00a0in high and concentrated volumes. Carbon dioxide (CO2<\/sub>) is an important greenhouse gas.<\/p>\n

    3. The (lovable) Weaklings\u00a0<\/strong>are the human beings. We cannot help being alive,\u00a0smart, curious, fun loving, restless. We like to breathe,\u00a0eat, drink,\u00a0make things, own things, travel, invent, celebrate, connect, work.<\/p>\n

    4. The Challenge <\/strong>is about strengthening the resolve of human beings\u00a0to change some of our behaviours,\u00a0in the interest of all and before\u00a0climate change becomes irreversible.<\/p>\n

    5. The Hero <\/strong>is the carbon footprint; a powerful and dependable tool which empowers us\u00a0to do brave deeds, such as taking concrete action to contain and reduce greenhouse gases.<\/p>\n

    6. The Plot <\/strong>is pragmatic and non-judgmental.
    \nmyclimate <\/span>intervenes in two ways: 1. Advises organisations and individuals about how to decrease\u00a0their own carbon footprint and 2. Calculates the\u00a0monetary value\u00a0of unavoidable<\/em> emissions. Example: Company A produces 70\u00a0tons (t CO2<\/span><\/sub>e) of unavoidable emissions. Based on myclimate’s algorithm, this\u00a0translates into a monetary value of say\u00a0CHF 5000. If Company A so desires (volontary), they may donate this monetary value to\u00a0Project B\u00a0which applies renewable energies to\u00a0reduce greenhouse gas emissions. NB: Project B has a cost which is fully or partially covered by the donor’s CHF 5000. Without this funding, it is most likely that Project B would not exist.<\/p>\n

    7. A positive ending – <\/strong>resulting in carbon-neutrality –\u00a0is totally feasible.\u00a0With the myclimate<\/span> method, and referring to\u00a0the above example, Project B (funded by\u00a0Company A)\u00a0reduces <\/em>Company A’s unavoidable carbon footprint by the same amount (70 t CO2<\/span><\/sub>e).<\/p>\n

    \"Offsetting<\/p>\n

    Please note <\/strong>that carbon footprint is not tied to a location. The climate is indifferent as to\u00a0where on the surface of the earth the unwanted gases escape into the atmosphere, and where they are reduced.<\/p>\n

    The greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere help keep the earth at an average temperature of 15 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n

    Without this greenhouse effect, the world\u2019s temperature would be minus 18 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n

    .<\/span><\/p>\n

    Since the industrial revolution, large amounts of greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere, as a by-product of human activity.<\/p>\n

    \"Human<\/p>\n

    .<\/span><\/p>\n

    The rising concentration in the atmosphere of these gases leads to an increase of the average global temperature.<\/p>\n

    \u2026 which in turn disrupts our climate<\/p>\n
